Another Pleasant Valley Sunday

When booking, usually the best remedy is never try to outsmart or more important outthink your opponent. The past few weeks, the bet takers in most cases have been doing very well with nature, just taking its natural course.

With baseball being the mainstay on the menu, the results have been very random. It is Sunday and just witnessed the White Sox give up 4 in the 9th to the Twins and saw the Dodgers give up a 4-run lead in the 8th to lose to the Cards by the final of 5-4.

It seems these types of endings have been busting streaks and that for all intent is the only way that booking baseball becomes an exercise in futility.

Other than a few exaggerated streaks on the losing end by teams such as the Astros, Pirates and Orioles in the first two months of the season, even the bad teams are playing better to avoid these situations, where it was an automatic 3-teamer just a few short weeks ago.

The White Sox were locked in for a "W" but have now cooled off and it shows.

When teams are streaking one way or another you overcompensate for the winning and losing streak and as I said earlier, sometimes outthink yourself.

And remember, it is the parlays that give you the "angina" so if just one team stops streaking, your summers go a lot quicker.

The soccer was good and with Tiger not winning anything lately, it is almost a pick up every golf tournament. With teams in most divisions bunched up at present there is not a clear cut winner or loser that jumps out on the menu.

So there are only two things you have to fade in the summer and that is the "heat" and the "streaks."

I also watched "Bugsy" today written by James Toback (Google him). Close to 30 years ago he had this town and all of the sports books as his private playground for a 3 month period. If you were here you will remember him probably by his two nicknames, "The Music Man" or "The Producer." If I only would have had an iPod then.

So stay out of the heat and try to make it to Del Mar at least once before football starts.

Take care,
Jimmy V.
