Joe Asher - President & Chief Executive OfficerJoe Asher has a long background in the gaming industry and a lifelong passion for the race and sports betting business. Starting when he was a teenager, Asher held management positions at several racetracks, including Brandywine Raceway, Dover Downs, Harrington Raceway and Foxboro Raceway and was the Wilmington News-Journal's thoroughbred racing handicapper for Delaware Park. He became the youngest track announcer in North America, calling races at Harrington, Foxboro, Brandywine and Dover Downs. Prior to forming Brandywine Bookmaking, Asher was Managing Director of the gaming affiliate of a global financial services company, before which he was an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Asher is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Widener University School of Law, magna cum laude, served a judicial clerkship with the Supreme Court of Delaware and is admitted to the bar in Delaware and New York. He is also a member of the Advisory Council of the Center for Political Communication at the University of Delaware and Widener Law’s National Advisory Council. Asher has been featured in numerous media outlets, including The New York Times, Las Vegas Review-Journal, Philadelphia Inquirer, Wilmington News-Journal and CNBC. Joe is a passionate Philadelphia Eagles fan. Joe Bertolone - Director of OperationsJoe Bertolone has a strong background in gaming, as well as in finance, accounting, operations, and technology. Bertolone served at the Nevada State Gaming Control Board as Chief of the Technology Division and Chief Administrative Officer. As senior executive of the Board’s technology division, he played a key role in crafting regulations and legislation while advising the Board on regulatory and policy matters relating to technology. Bertolone was responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of over 212,000 state-wide gaming devices in over 2,400 licensed gaming properties. He led the effort to re-align the Board’s divisional structure to address the increasing reliance of technology in the gaming industry. As the Chief Administrative Officer at the Gaming Control Board, he was responsible for the Board’s 400+ employees, an $80 million biennial budget, professional standards, information technology and archive units. Prior to his work with the Gaming Control Board, Bertolone served in managerial and consulting capacities, principally for companies in the technology field, such as Cisco, VeriFone and Invensys. His expertise includes financial statement auditing, enterprise-wide technology implementations, integration and implementing of enterprise-class software packages and networking solutions. He began his career as an accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co. Bertolone has a B.S. in business administration, with an emphasis in finance, from California State University, Chico. He is an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and UNC Tar Heels basketball fan. Jimmy Vaccaro - Director of Sports Operations & Public RelationsJimmy Vaccaro, widely considered Las Vegas’ most influential bookmaker, serves as Director of Sports Operations and Public Relations for Lucky's. Vaccaro’s storied career in the sports betting business traces back more than 30 years after he moved from his native Pittsburgh to Las Vegas and took a job as a blackjack dealer at the Royal Inn in 1975. Soon after, he was chosen to open and run the Royal Inn's first sports book. From there, Vaccaro helped open the sports book at the Barbary Coast on the Vegas Strip in 1979. Six years later, Kirk Kerkorian recruited Vaccaro to open up the sports book at the MGM Grand. In 1987, Vaccaro hooked up with Steve Wynn to manage the book at the Golden Nugget. Wynn then chose Vaccaro to open and manage the new sports book at the Mirage. In 2003, Vaccaro left Las Vegas to open the race and sports book at the Atlantis on Paradise Island, Bahamas. In 2009, he went to Delaware for the launch of the state's sports lottery. Vaccaro is a frequently quoted expert on sports betting in the national media and has been featured on ABC, Bloomberg, CBS, CNN, ESPN and NBC TV and The New York Times. DiTommaso was most recently the Director of Race & Sports Book Operations for the Club Cal Neva, which operates numerous satellite sports betting locations across Nevada. Prior to joining the Club Cal Neva, DiTommaso was the Director of Race & Sports for the Horizon, Whiskey Pete's and the PrimaDonna casinos. He is a die-hard New York Giants fan.
Dan Shapiro - Director of MarketingDan Shapiro has a diverse background in the horse racing and gaming industries. He started as a press box and marketing intern at Suffolk Downs racetrack during college in Boston before accepting a position as Marketing Manager at the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority (The Meadowlands and Monmouth Park). Shapiro oversaw the content and redesign of the organization’s racing websites in addition to serving as its thoroughbred racing program commentator and handicapper. Shapiro later held marketing management positions at Daily Racing Form, the gaming affiliate of a global financial services company and Youbet.com, the leading advance deposit horse race wagering website. He has also written extensively for Churchill Downs Inc.'s network of websites, Daily Racing Form and has contributed to The Horseplayer Magazine. Shapiro conducts handicapping seminars around major racing events. Shapiro has a B.S. in Journalism from Boston University. He is an avid New York Mets and Giants fan. She started her career in Laughlin, Nevada where she was Benefits Manager for the Golden Nugget Casino. After earning her master's degree, she re-joined MGM Mirage corporation in Las Vegas as Director of Human Resources for their Primm Valley Casino Resorts properties. Navarrette currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Southern Nevada Hispanic Employment Program (SNHEP) and holds the position of Scholarship Chair. She is also an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management, is a graduate of the Discover Leadership programs and is a Diversity Champion through Guardian Quest. Minerva is a Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers fan. |
