LAS VEGAS – Lucky’s Sports Book and Fitzgeralds Casino gave Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Mayor Oscar Goodman and Jimmy VaccaroThe Mayor bet a four-team parlay using two pro football games and two college games. In the college games, he selected BYU in the New Mexico Bowl and Troy in the New Orleans Bowl. In the NFL, he selected the underdog New York Jets against the Steelers and his beloved Philadelphia Eagles against the New York Giants. The Eagles came back from a 21-point halftime deficit to beat the Giants after a dramatic punt return for a touchdown.

Mayor Goodman chose to split his winnings between the Nevada Cancer Institute and the Lou Ruvo Center. Lucky’s and Fitzgeralds decided to double the winnings, making the donation $1,320 to each cause.

Mayor Goodman and executives from Lucky’s and Fitzgeralds will present the checks to representatives from the Nevada Cancer Institute and the Ruvo Center at a ceremony on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Mayor’s office at City Hall.

“I want to thank Lucky’s and Fitzgeralds for generously doubling my winnings to benefit these two great charities,” Mayor Goodman said. “It has been a tough year betting on football for me, but if any of my bets were going to come through I’m glad it was this one.”

“Nevada Cancer Institute has always benefitted from Mayor Goodman’s tireless advocacy, and today we are glad to benefit from his good fortune and sports prognostication skill as well,” said Dr. John C. Ruckdeschel, Director and CEO of Nevada Cancer Institute. “We thank the mayor for his support, and everyone at Lucky’s and Fitzgeralds for their generosity in matching the win, and helping to support our mission of reducing the burden of cancer in Nevada.”
