Lucky's Progressive heads to playoffs with $15,555 jackpot

Eight selections this week; $5 entry fee

LAS VEGAS (January 3, 2012) – The Lucky’s Progressive Carryover Football Contest heads into overtime with a $15,555 jackpot for this weekend’s pro football wild card playoff games. There were no perfect cards in the final Sunday of the regular season.

With four games on the playoff schedule, there will be eight total selections required to win or share in the jackpot. For a $5 entry, players must pick the winner of each game plus the correct “over” or “under” for the total score for each game. If there are multiple winners, the $15,555 jackpot will be divided equally among all winning tickets.

There is a $5 fee per entry and there is no limit to the number of entries a player may purchase.  With eight required selections this week, there are 256 possible combinations. A player could actually cover every combination for $1,280. If a player “keyed” the Saints and Steelers, the most heavily favored teams this weekend, the ticket would be reduced to 64 combinations or $320. During the regular season, 16 correct selections were required to win or share in the jackpot.

Players can submit their picks at one of 17 Lucky’s Sports Books starting Wednesday until kick-off of the Cincinnati-Houston game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 7.

In Week 16, Charlie W. of Henderson took home $37,015 after picking a perfect card at the Lucky’s at Terrible’s Hotel & Casino. Earlier in the season, Larry C. won $51,770 at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks.

Complete rules can be found on the Lucky’s website at www.betatluckys.com. The Progressive Carryover Contest can be played at any of the following 17 Nevada Lucky’s Race & Sports Books:

Henderson man wins $37,000 in Lucky's Football Progressive at Terrible's Casino

LAS VEGAS (December 29, 2011) - Charlie W. of Henderson knew he was the only person holding a perfect ticket live for the entire $37,015 jackpot at Lucky’s Race & Sports Books going into Monday night’s game between the Saints and Falcons.

Lucky's Football Progressive winner Charlie W. (left) receives his $37,015 prize check from Terrible's Las Vegas ticket writer Nina and Director of Sports Operations Jimmy Vaccaro.

Charlie, 63, who submitted his $5 ticket at Terrible’s Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, had already picked 15 pro football games correctly. He needed New Orleans, seven point favorites, to beat Atlanta straight up. It put Charlie in a dream hedge situation, so he placed a large straight bet on the Falcons with the points, guaranteeing a profit and potentially winning both bets if the Saints were to win by seven or fewer points.

“I probably hedged too much,” said Charlie, who worked in the casino business Las Vegas for 20 years.

winning Lucky's ticketAs it turned out, after a close first quarter, the Saints thrashed the Falcons, 45-16.

“I don’t even usually bet individual games. I’d rather take my shot at these big payouts," Charlie said.

Favorites did win 10 of the 15 Saturday, Sunday and Monday games straight up. The biggest upset in Week 16 was the Vikings beating the Redskins as 6.5-point underdogs.

I thought Minnesota had a chance,” Charlie said. “I’m more of a numbers guy. I respect the bookmakers, but you have to pick and choose upsets once in a while.”

Charlie didn’t have any immediate plans for the cash other than reinvesting some into the Lucky’s $10,000 progressive for Week 17.

“I live a pretty quiet, sedate life,” he said. “I’m not looking to buy any fancy cars.”

A former avid golfer, Charlie was a two handicap and spent several years chasing a spot on the PGA’s Senior Tour. Before getting into the casino business, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 16 years.

The best parlay cards are at Lucky's!

Why play anywhere else? Lucky’s football parlay cards have verified as the best paying in Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Advisor in its new October issue. Here’s what the LVA published:

We looked at almost every other card in town—including the off-Strip shops—and Lucky’s payouts were highest, or tied for highest, in every category from 3-teamers at 6.75-for-1 to 10-teamers at 850-for-1.”
