by Jimmy Vaccaro (Twitter @JimmyVaccaro) June 1, 2010 It was not a bad weekend as I am still pleasantly surprised at the loyal car racing buffs who bet the Indy and NASCAR races over the weekend. These events are great fillers and as long as long shots or Danica do not win, the joints usually do well.
The close-outs weren’t exactly kind to the bet takers as Boston and the Lakers both drew attention in close-out games, but we escaped again as the Lakers got stalled in the 2nd half to ward off those L.A. and over buffs.
Attendance-wise for the books should be OK with the rivalry that exists between the two teams. Don’t know if I can fade Magic Johnson for 7 more games. I know to a lot of people he is a crowd favorite and I along with many marveled at his basketball skills, but he has less substance in his breakdown than anyone I have ever heard speak as an analyst.
The Lakers are posted around 1-2 to win it and around -6 and 193 are the game prices. Do not look for super swings depending on situations in this series as I believe you would be fading more of the buy back as opposed to the first moves created by who is leading in the series.
Hopefully this will lead into a "saver" for us as the World Cup starts soon. I am skeptical only because of the early start times that are involved. I guess we can lean on the WNBA (where is John Kelly when you need him?) to help with down slack for the next 8 weeks.
I guess Dee Wade and his posse will decide on the future of the NBA at their lunch. Could you hear the firestorm if all the upper management in our town decide to get together and talk about "things?" It’s a different world than a short generation ago.
So pick some winners in both NBA and soccer and it is time to put those things on our dashboards so your hands don’t melt if we jump out of the car for 2 minutes.
And if you win one of these games by a buzzer beater do not celebrate like the guy from the Angels and put yourself on the 15 day disabled list. We need you in the lineup.
Take care, Jimmy V.
